Arctic ice is near a record low for winter (Reuters 2018).  This  risks deepening California’s recent five-year drought and result in lost production, thousands of seasonal agriculture jobs, and spiked electricity bills as hydroelectric systems fail.

Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean set q record low in 2017 for the wintertime, the region being strongly affected by long-term trends of global warming (Reuters). The U.N.’s World Meteorological Organization said that the planet was in “truly uncharted territory” with the impacts of global warming.
